INNOVIM in the Community
Not all of the good work done by INNOVIM employees is directly related to the business itself. Quite a few of our team also continue to be involved in highly worthwhile community assistance and volunteer activities that provide welcome help to others.
Flying Combat Wounded Veterans
One notable example comes from Steve Kiger, VP of Finance. In past years he has been one of several local pilots who volunteered their time and small airplanes to fly combat-wounded military personnel receiving treatment at Walter Reed hospital to the annual Halos and Heroes gathering held near Virginia Beach. Halos and Heroes was organized to honor the service and sacrifices of these, and all, wounded military veterans. Read more …
Mentoring Women through Women In Technology
Ms. Kellye Sheehan, VP of Business Development, volunteers her time with Women in Technology (WIT). Kellye has served since 2003 as a Volunteer Mentor in WIT's Mentor-Protégé Program. In this program, technology professionals with 5 or more years' experience in the workforce can request individualized mentoring by a set of senior professionals, across a 6-month period. She is also active in a number of WIT-sponsored charity-related activities.
As a result of her continued efforts and involvement with the organization, Kellye was recently selected to serve as Chair of the Executive Women's Special Interest Group (SIG) for 2008-2009, as part of the WIT Leadership Team! Congratulations Kellye! Read more …
Walter Reed Army Medical Center Donations
The employees and contractors of Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) have embraced the wounded soldiers at The Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), just five miles up the road from the White House, which has housed hundreds of injured soldiers recuperating from their tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Innovim employees have collected from the donation boxes placed throughout the campus of GSFC and delivered these much needed supplies to the Walter Reed hospital. Mary Hunter, Innovim's Director of Systems Engineering, has been leading this effort for all Innovim employees on-site at GSFC. Donations range from snacks and toiletries, to metro cards, reading material, kids toys, and holiday candy.
The day-long event, held at a large private airfield, typically includes an informal air show by vintage WWII fighters and bombers based at the museum on the field, formal presentations to the military honorees by Pentagon and Congressional speakers, and a free concert lasting well into the night.
Halos and Heroes is sponsored partly by Angel Flight, of which Steve is a long-time member. Angel Flight and its sister organizations routinely offer free air transportation throughout the country to veteran and active duty military families, and to financially needy civilian families, for medical treatment away from their home areas.
