Summary

Innovim is looking for a candidate to support government projects in Greenbelt, Maryland. We have an opening for a senior instruments systems engineer to perform advanced concept development work for a variety of satellite-based instruments for Earth and Space observation.

The candidate shall be capable of providing support for the development of small to medium instruments during all phases—from the early conceptual studies phase to the on-orbit calibration phase.

The candidate should be proficient with instrument systems engineering, including remote sensing technology, mass spectroscopy, cryogenic instruments, instrument concept development, requirements definition and flow down, instrument verification, technology readiness levels, satellite bus interfaces, test and integration, launch and mission operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform requirements analysis – identify, verify and refine requirements
  • Provide the technical leadership to develop instrument concept by integrating requirements
  • Develop and refine top-level instrument architecture/block diagram
  • Perform and maintain top level analyses and trade studies
  • Allocate systems resources to instrument subsystems
  • Identify technical problems and recommend solutions
  • Analyze Characterize Technology Readiness Levels (TRL’s) for all candidate technologies
  • Perform risk analyses and assessments
  • Prepare and maintain specifications and ICDs
  • Maintain/assure interface compliance within the instrument and between the instruments and external components
  • Attend technical interchange meetings, reviews and status meetings
  • Prepare design review and proposal material including presentations
  • Review and assess the instrument test plans and procedures, and verification of the requirement compliances
  • Assess instrument performance
  • Lead instrument anomaly investigation as required
  • Provide support for the activities for the instrument integration to the spacecraft after the instrument delivery
  • Support launch site activities and the on-orbit checkout involving the instrument

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline
  • 10 years of engineering experience
  • 5 years of systems engineering experience in the development andintegration of instruments on satellites
  • 5 years or more of experience in satellite systems engineering, mission design or launch and flight operations
  • Systems engineering experience on satellite buses, mission design and operations
  • Knowledge of the GSFC Systems Engineering Handbook and Gold Rules
  • Proposal writing experience
