IT Security Specialist, position no. nws-itss015

IT SECURITY SPECIALIST (all levels): Is responsible for maintenance or assists in the maintenance of systems to protect data from unauthorized users. Identifies, reports and resolves security violations. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and guidance. BS/BA degree (or equivalent) plus 0-2 years of experience in related field. Higher-level IT security specialist positions may require as many as 10 years prior experience.

Additional requirements for higher-level IT Security Specialist positions may include:

• Working under general supervision
• Relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Leading and directing the work of others
• Increased familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
• Analyzing information security systems and applications to recommend and develop security measures to protect information against unauthorized modification or loss
• Being responsible for developing and managing Information Systems security, including disaster recovery, database protection and software development
• Performing a variety of complicated tasks
• Ensuring all system platforms are functional and secure
• Meeting the expectations of a wide degree of creativity and latitude
