Logistics Specialist, position no. nws-ls020

LOGISTICS SPECIALIST (all levels): Responsible for purchasing and negotiating low dollar value materials, equipment and supplies from vendors. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Entry level position does not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. HS diploma (or equivalent), and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Higher-level logistic specialist positions may require as many as 6+ years prior experience, an AA degree (or equivalent), or possibly a BS/BA degree (or equivalent).

Additional requirements for higher-level Logistics Specialist positions may include:

• Increased familiarity with commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field
• Meeting the expectations of a high degree of creativity and latitude
• Relying on increased levels of experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Leading and directing the work of others
• Working under general supervision
