Systems Analyst, position no. nws-sa035

SYSTEMS ANALYST (all levels): Performs system analysis tasks, from basic to complex, for information systems in support of senior staff. Collects information to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems. With appropriate guidance, provides system-level support of current operating systems, hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of these systems. Identifies alternatives for optimizing computer resources. Analyzes requirements, procedures, and potential problems to improve existing systems. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures for a given system. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and guidance. BS/BA degree (or equivalent) plus 0-2 years of experience in related field. Higher-level systems analyst positions may require as many as 10 years prior experience.

Additional requirements for higher-level Systems Analyst positions may include:

• Increased familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field
• Relying on experience and judgment to plan and achieve goals
• Working under general supervision
• Assisting with evaluation and correction of system performance
• Supervision of junior staff
• Evaluating and recommending improvements of systems performance and efficiency to the Program Manager and customer
